Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women is located in Pewee Valley Kentucky, part of Shelby County. Female inmates from all over the state and of all custody levels are incarcerated at this prison. Inmates can be housed in single or double bunks depending on their security level. This facility is responsible for female death row inmates, lifers, as well as inmates who are only serving one year. Currently, this facility can hold approximately 733 offenders.
The Main Building is a dormitory style housing unit with 175 beds that accommodates general population inmates as well as those in the Special Living Unit (SLU) which consists of 10 single occupancy beds. Additionally, the Property, Intake, Legal Aid, and School facilities are located within the Main Building.
The Restrictive Housing Unit (RHU) is comprised of 44 cells designed for inmates in need of protective custody, disciplinary segregation, or administrative segregation. The RHU includes outdoor exercise areas and non-contact visiting areas.
Ridgeview Dormitory has 192 beds divided into four wings (A, B, C, and D) along with an administrative area. The Assessment Center in A Wing houses new arrivals, B Wing houses inmates in the Amends Program and Challenges Program, C Wing houses offenders classified into the COD SAP Therapeutic Community, and D Wing houses offenders in the SAP Therapeutic Community.
Pine Bluff is a 200-bed dormitory with four wings on each floor, including double bunked wings. This unit accommodates general population offenders and honor status offenders of all custody levels, as well as the Paws with Purpose program which trains assist dogs for individuals with disabilities.
The Lonnie Watson Center houses general population inmates with A Wing for medical observation/skilled nursing care, B/D/E Wings for general population inmates, and C Wing for administrative and disciplinary segregation inmates.
The Minimum Security Unit outside the main prison fence houses 44 minimum and community custody level offenders as well as Honor Status offenders.
