Description of Facility
Long Creek Youth Development Center is located in South Portland, and is the only youth facility in Maine. It has a maximum capacity of 167 juvenile offenders. Residents are of all security levels including minimum, medium, and maximum levels. Additionally Long Creek Youth Development Center houses pre-trial and sentenced inmates. The facility is comprised of seven housing units each with individual bedrooms for residents.
Vocational programs at Long Creek Youth Development Center include drafting design, hospitality, welding, mechanical engineering, health services, agriculture, computer technology, business and construction.
Maine Department of Corrections recognizes the importance of inmates maintaining communication with their loved ones. During incarceration inmates are allowed to send and receive correspondence.
