Maine State Prison is a medium to maximum security prison built in 2002 in Warren Maine. This facility can house up to 993 adult male offenders. Maine State Prison houses it's residents in four areas, the mental health unit, the special management unit, the close unit, and medium unit.
Residents can participate in various programs, including a foster dog program in which inmates care and train young puppies and rescued dogs, and a hospice program in which inmate volunteers aid in the care of patients. Individual counseling is available upon request, and group counseling sessions are held several times per week. Maine State Prison participates in the industries program, providing a labor force for a small products line, an upholstery shop, and a wood shop.
