Description of Facility

Maryland Correctional Institution for Women opened in 1936, and has the distinction of being the only facility that houses maximum, medium, minimum, and pre-release female inmates. The maximum capacity of this facility is 850.

Maryland Correctional Institution is comprised of three buildings that contain housing units, A building, B building, and Building 192. A building contains two pods with 112 double bunked beds in each pod and is home to the American's Vet Dog program. B building contains two pods (B East and B West) with 112 double bunked beds and houses the Rescue Cat Association. Building 192 is the oldest unit and is made up of 4 wings, A, B, C, and D.

Visiting Hours & Information

Maryland Department of Corrections requires all visitors have an approved visiting application on file prior to attending a visiting session.  Start the process by doing the following:

  • Complete a Maryland Visitors Application. You must request this from the inmate, Maryland DOC does not make this available online.
  • Complete, print, sign and submit the application back to the inmate.
  • It will be up to the inmate to inform you of your visitation status, approved or denied.
  • Once you are approved, you can schedule to visit your loved one (see below).

 

Maryland Correctional Institution for Women Visiting Hours:
Visits are by scheduled appointment only, up to 7 days in advance, scheduling closes three days before the visit.

Visits occur on an odd/even schedule determined by the last digit of the inmate's ID number.  Even ID numbers can have visits on even numbered days, odd ID numbers can have visits on odd numbered days.

General Population and Admission Status Inmates:
Thursday and Friday

Saturday and Sunday
8:00am-2:00pm
5:00pm-8:00pm
Visits are one hour in duration

Administrative Segregation and Mental Health Inmates:
Thursday
12:30pm-2:00pm
Visits are one hour in duration

Disciplinary Segregation Inmates:
Thursday
12:30pm-2:00pm
Visits are 30 minutes in duration

Protective Custody Inmates:
Friday
12:30pm-2:00pm
Visits are one hour in duration

Infirmary Inmates:
Saturday
1:00pm-2:00pm
Visits are one hour in duration
Inmate must be healthy enough to attend the visiting room

Important things to remember when visiting an inmate at Maryland Correctional Institution for Women:

  • A valid government issued photo ID is required in order to visit.
  • Inmates are allowed two in person visits per week one per day.
  • A maximum of four visitors per visit.
  • Visits to the infirmary are limited to two adults.
  • This facility utilizes an odd/even visiting schedule based on the day of the month and the last digit of the inmates ID number. Inmates with odd number have visits on odd days, even numbers have visits on even days.
  • No visits occur on the 31st of any month.
  • Your visit will terminate if you need to use the restroom, be sure to use it before your visit (this includes children).
