Maryland Correctional Training Center opened in 1966 and is the largest single compound correctional facility in Maryland. Considered a medium security prison, Maryland Correctional Training Center can house up to 2,958 medium, minimum and pre-release adult male offenders. Inmates are housed in eight housing units, each one divided into 3-4 tiers and vary between general population open housing and closed housing.
While incarcerated inmates can participate in occupational training programs including carpentry, small engine repair, auto body repair, auto mechanics, plumbing, electrical wiring, office technology, and masonry. Additionally, this facility allows inmates to produce goods through the Maryland Correctional Enterprises program that include corrugated cartons, and utility brushes.
