Northpoint Training Center opened in 1983 and is situated in Burgin, Kentucky within Boyle County. It serves as a medium security facility for up to 1,256 adult male inmates. Northpoint Training Center is comprised of six open dormitories for general population inmates, while special management units are housed in individual cells. Strict security measures such as two twelve-foot fences with razor wire, electronic sensors, and four armed guard towers help ensure the inmates' safety. Minimum custody offenders are housed in buildings located outside the perimeter fence and are involved in various support positions for the facility and grounds.
Inmates at Northpoint Training Center have the opportunity to earn their GED through the prison's educational program. They can also improve their reading skills and receive adult basic education. Various programs focus on substance abuse treatment, parenting skills, behavioral changes, and vocational training including welding, electrical, carpentry, safety specialist, and CT fundamentals.
