Palmer Correctional Center houses both medium and minimum security inmates. The facility offers substance abuse treatment as well as psychiatric treatments for acute disorders. There is also a family violence intervention program based at this facility that helps offenders break the cycle of domestic violence. This facility also has an outpatient sex offender treatment program that claims to help lower the recidivism rate of sex offenders through group therapy.
Inmates can earn their GED and get adult basic education at this facility. Adult basic education, sometimes referred to as ABE, gives offenders the education equivalent of 9th grade, while the GED program helps inmates earn their high school equivalency diploma. Vocational studies at this institution are in small engine repair, forklift operation, welding courses, and many computer information/drafting courses. Inmates are encouraged to take advantage of these classes while they are incarcerated as it teaches them a new skill and can help in their eventual reintegration to society.
