The Pendleton Correctional Facility, is a level three maximum security adult male facility. It also includes a minimum-security dormitory adjacent to the main facility. The facility's history dates back to 1821 on the Ohio River in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where the first Indiana State Prison was built. In 1897, it became the Indiana Reformatory. After a fire in 1918, the facility was relocated to its current site in 1921. Over the years several renovations have added buildings to the facility. Additional housing units were added in 1985, a new infirmary in September 1988, and cell house renovations in 2009. In 1996, the Indiana Reformatory was renamed the Pendleton Correctional Facility to better reflect its geographical location.
During their incarceration inmates have access to programs like barber shop, knitting and crocheting, creative writing, because I said I would, the FORWARD cat sanctuary, the ICAN Indiana Canine assistant network and much more.
