Southern Maine Women's Re-entry Center is a minimum security prison specializing in a pre-release function, that is it prepares offenders for their upcoming release and reintegration with society. This institution has a maximum capacity of 100 adult females. Select inmates who meet specific criteria are granted work release which allows them to gain employment in the surrounding community. This helps prepare offenders for release by establishing a work routine, and a saving account. Inmates also can participate in various community service projects including assisting local agencies, landscaping facility grounds, and training therapy dogs.

Maine Department of Corrections recognizes the importance of inmates maintaining communication with their loved ones. During incarceration inmates are allowed to send and receive correspondence. You are required to know the inmate's location and identification number in order to send them anything. Find this information by searching the Maine inmate database.
Always include the following on correspondence:
- The inmate's First and Last name
- Their identification number
- The facility name and address
- Your full name and address in the return field (will not be delivered if missing)
Inmates in Maine may receive the following through the mail:
- Letters must be in black or dark blue ink and on 8.5"x11" white paper.
- Photos no larger than 4"x6". Instant/polaroid photos are not allowed. No nudity, weapons, drugs, or alcohol can be in the images.
- Newspaper and magazine clippings or photocopies.
- Photocopies of drawings/colorings from a minor child (original not allowed).
- New softcover books newspapers and magazines mailed directly from an approved distributor including Amazon, Books N Things Warehouse, Hamilton Books, Prison Legal News, and Shutterfly. Publications must not contain nudity, be sexually explicit, promote hate, or present a security threat to the facility.

Sending Monthly Holiday Care/Food Packages
Maine Department of Corrections participates in a quarterly package program offered through AccessSecurepak. These packages contain food, snack, drink and hygiene items. Packages are only available for order during select dates. To order a package you will need to know the inmate's full name and ID number.
Inmates incarcerated in Maine are allowed to make outgoing collect calls and pre-paid calls only. Some important things to know:
- Medium and High security facilities have a 30 minute call duration.
- Minimum security and lower have a 60 minute call duration.
- At no time can inmate's receive incoming calls.
- All calls (except privileged calls) are recorded.
- Deposit funds to a Maine inmate's phone account.
Maine Department of Corrections allows you to send inmates up to $100 per day ($200 per week). You will need to know the inmate's MDOC number and date of birth. Send money the following ways:
- Online - You can deposit funds online using a debit or credit card.
- Mail - You can also mail a check from a Maine bank, US postal money order, or government check (including tribal check) directly to the inmate at the facility they reside. Include the inmate's name and MDOC number on the funds. The senders full name and address must appear as well.
To send correspondence, funds, and arrange visits for inmates in Maine you will need to know the residents MDOC or identification number. You can find this number and other crucial information like an inmate's location and sentencing information by searching the Maine inmate database.
Maine Department of Corrections requires all visitors have an approved visiting application on file before they can attend a visiting session. Start the process by doing the following:
- Complete a Maine Inmate Visitors Application.

Important things to remember when visiting an inmate at Southern Maine Women's Re-entry Center:
- A valid government issued photo ID is required in order to visit.
- Visitors are subject to search, as is their vehicle.
- No food or drinks may enter into the facility.
No watches, Fitbits, fitness trackers, smart watches, or other wearable technology are allowed.
- No cell phones, pagers, cameras, or electronics of any kind. Secure these items in your car, or in a visitation locker if available.
- No tobacco products or lighters.
- No weapons, No drugs or alcohol.

Dress Code and Visiting Rules
- Clothing may not be similar to the inmate's or guards or resemble nursing scrubs, postal or utility employee
- No see through, fishnet, or sheer clothing
- No halter tops, no tube tops, no tank tops
- No spandex, leggings, jeggings, or tight fitting clothing
- No zippered shirts
- No mini skirts, slit skirts, or slit dresses
- No shorts
- Undergarments must not be showing
- No braless attire
- No flip flops, sandals, open toe shoes, open back shoes, or bare feet allowed
- No clothing that reveals the midriff or shoulders
- No clothing that contains profanity, or be symbolic of drugs or gangs, sexual symbols, or contain offensive or threatening language/images are prohibited
- No clothing that promotes alcohol or tobacco
- If you leave during the visit to use the bathroom your visit will end (this includes small children using the bathroom)
- Nothing may be passed to the inmate during visitation
- Yelling, Talking Loud, and cursing is prohibited

Video visitation is provided through GTL's Gettingout website. This service is provided for a fee, user's need to setup an account and schedule their visit through the GTL website.
