Description of Facility

The Youth Detention Center opened in 2017 and is a medium security facility located in Baltimore Maryland. This institution specializes in housing minors male and female aged 14 to 17 who have been charged as adults. The first floor houses the female pod, the second floor contains four male housing pods. The maximum capacity of this facility is 60 (50 males and 10 females). Pods are labeled A through F. While incarcerated at the Youth Detention Center residents are educated with the same curriculum as other public schools in Baltimore.

Visiting Hours & Information

Maryland Department of Corrections requires all visitors have an approved visiting application on file prior to attending a visiting session.  Start the process by doing the following:

  • Complete a Maryland Visitors Application. You must request this from the inmate, Maryland DOC does not make this available online.
  • Complete, print, sign and submit the application back to the inmate.
  • It will be up to the inmate to inform you of your visitation status, approved or denied.
  • Once you are approved, you can schedule to visit your loved one (see below).

Visits are by scheduled appointment only, up to 7 days in advance, scheduling closes three days before the visit.

Important things to remember when visiting an inmate at Youth Detention Facility:

  • A valid government issued photo ID is required in order to visit.
  • All visitors must be immediate family.
  • A maximum of two visits per week (two in person or one virtual and one in person).
  • A maximum of three visitors per visit (minor visitors count as a visitor).

Maryland Video Visitation
Video visitation is provided through Microsoft Teams. In order to participate in video visitation you must fill out a video visitation acknowledgement form. This is a free service available on android and iphone. Virtual visits are conducted on Saturdays from 10:00am-2:00pm and are 15 minutes in duration.
