Originally opened as Kings County State Prison in 1987, and was renamed Avenal State Prison approximately a year later. Situated on 640 acres and comprised of 108 buildings, Avenal State Prison was originally designed for a capacity of 2,955 inmates but hovers around a current capacity of 4,100.
Avenal State Prison is a low-medium security institution and is considered a level II and II facility.
Avenal is comprised of 24 separate housing units divided among Facilities A-F, which house general population and special needs inmates.

This is the California Visiting Questionnaire form and it must be signed by the inmate before you can fill it out and send it back to the facility at the inmate mailing address and add: "Attention: Visiting".
