Avon Park Correctional Institution is a level 4 facility that houses custody levels from close to minimum/community. This facility can house up to 1,612 inmates. The main unit is considered a security level 4 and houses close, medium and minimum offenders. Avon Park Work Camp is located on site and is classified as a security level 3 housing medium, minimum, and community security level inmates.
Established in 1957 on the grounds of the former Avon Park Air Force Base, Avon Park Correctional institution site on over 325 acres and is comprised of 173 buildings. Inmates are housed in eight dormitory housing units.
