Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center is part of the Denver Complex and where Colorado inmates enter into their correctional experience. The Reception and Diagnostic Center can house up to 558 male and female offenders (female offenders are immediately sent to the Denver Women's Correctional Facility reception unit). Youthful offenders may spend several hours here awaiting transfer, but are not housed here.
This facility is responsible for the intake and classification of offenders, which ultimately will determine the facility and needs of the inmate. Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center processes over 16,000 offenders annually.
Denver Reception and Diagnostic has a special medical needs unit and 36 bed infirmary. It also acts as a dialysis care unit.
