Dixon Correctional Center opened in 1983 and can house up to 1,975 adult male inmates of medium security. The facility does not operate at full capacity and averages under 1,000 inmates. As the largest medium security correctional facility, Dixon Correctional Center plays a unique role in the rehabilitation of inmates. This facility has a dedicated psychiatric and special treatment unit that serves the mentally handicapped and developmentally disabled. General population inmates are housed separately in multiple units.
