Elmore Correctional Facility is a medium custody prison located in Elmore county Alabama. This facility houses male inmates and has a current capacity of 1168 offenders.
Originally opened in 1981, Elmore Correctional Facility has undergone various expansion projects over the years to accommodate the need for more housing of inmates. Situated 72 acres, Elmore Correctional has consistently provided inmates with educational programs, including vocational studies in carpentry, welding, and the culinary arts. This facility also has a horticulture program that enables inmates to work in greenhouses and gardens some of which becomes produce used within the prison.
Inmates at Elmore correctional facility have access to many programs and has one of the largest prison libraries in the state with over 10,000 books available to inmates. Other programs provided include automotive mechanics, HVAC, industrial maintenance, marine technology, cabinetmaking, and even barbering. Additional opportunities exist working with the highway squads of the department of transportation, and in the recycling center.

Inmates can have visits once every two weeks (twice a month). One of the visits can be on a Saturday and the other on a Sunday. Visiting hours are from 7am to 1pm. Two or three times a year this facility will host a family night, usually from 3-7pm, in which inmates and their families can all get together on a Saturday. Upon arrival for visitation you will need to park and then go to the office where you will receive a number for visitation. You can usually arrive at 6:45am, but no earlier then 6:30am. At 7am the first numbers will start to be called for visitation, upon being called you will go inside and trade in your keys and ID for a second number. Next you can expect to be searched and then will enter the visiting area.
