Gulf Correctional Institution is a level five correctional institution that houses a mixture of custody levels including close, medium, minimum, and community offenders. Gulf CI is comprised of the Main unit, the Annex, and the Gulf Forestry Camp, although currently only the Main unit is operating, the Annex and forestry camp are temporarily closed. The maximum capacity of Gulf Correctional Institution is 1,572 male inmates.
Situated on 365 acres, Gulf Correctional Institution is comprised of nine single story housing units that include six dormitories A, B, C, D, E, and S. Dormitories F and G are two story units separated into four quads or "wings", these cells are double occupancy. Dormitory H is sometimes referred to as T Dorm, and houses special confinement inmates for disciplinary, protective, and administrative reasons.
