Hartford Correctional Center opened in 1977 and is a mixed custody prison that houses level 1-4 inmates. The current capacity of this facility is 921 offenders. Hartford Correctional Center serves as a level 4 high security urban jail that holds mostly pre-trial inmates.

What you can send an inmate

 Inmates at Hartford Correctional Center are allowed the following through the mail:

  • Letters
  • photos 4x6 (no Polaroids, no nudity)
  • softcover books, magazines, and newspapers sent new directly from a reputable vendor like Barnes and Noble

All mail sent to an inmate must contain the following:

  • Inmate's Full Name and ID Number
  • Facility address/P.O. Box Number

How Inmate Calls Work

Inmates in Connecticut can make outgoing telephone calls through a company called Securus.  Securus charges a low rate per minute.  You can setup an account here.  Inmates can buy phone minutes using their inmate account.

How to send money to an inmate

   In Connecticut anyone can deposit funds into an inmates account, even if they are not on an inmate's visitation list.  These funds can be used to purchase an assortment of items from the commissary including food, stamps, and hygiene items.  You will need the inmate's full name and identification number in order to send them money.

You can send inmates in Connecticut money in the following ways:

  • By internet using credit/debit card via three providers
    • JPAY
    • TouchPay
    • Western Union
  • In person using cash
    • Through MoneyGram locations, using receive code 1222
    • Through Western Union locations

How to do an Inmate Search

 Search the Connecticut inmate database to get an inmate identification number, current location, offense, and sentencing information.

Visiting Information/FAQs

All visitors must have an approved visitors application on file before they can visit.

To visit you must first fill out and submit a Connecticut Inmate visitors application here.  The inmate should request this application from their assigned counselor who will then forward the application to the prospective visitor.  A copy of a valid government issued ID must be submitted with the application.  Return the completed signed application to your inmate at the facility they are incarcerated in.

The application process can take several weeks and it is up to the inmate to inform you of your visiting status (denied or approved).  Once approved you can schedule a visit.

All visits at Hartford Correctional Center are by appointment only.
Once your visitors application is approved you can schedule an appointment to visit online here.  You must have a scheduled visiting confirmation to enter into a visit.

Visiting Hours for Hartford Correctional Center:
Visits occur everyday (except Wednesday) in four blocks and are organized by unit on a rotating schedule.  Wednesdays are reserved for professional/legal visits and for South block central management.

1:30pm-3:15pm
7:00pm-8:15pm
8:30pm-9:45pm

You cannot attend just any block on any day, you must match it with the corresponding unit your inmate is located in.  View the current visitation schedule here.

Two in-person visits are allowed each week
Two visitors may visit an inmate at a time
Visitors should show up 15 minutes prior to their visitation time.

Video visitation is also provided to inmates in Connecticut, but you must be on their approved visitation list and must schedule your video visitation using the scheduling portal above.

Bring a valid government issued photo ID in order to enter into visitation.
You may bring a single debit or credit card to use in the vending machine.

Dress Code
The following clothing is not allowed:

  • Clothes that resembles the clothes of the inmate
  • Clothes that resemble law enforcement or military including camouflage
  • No skirts, dresses, or shorts that expose two inches above the knee or more
  • No halter tops, strapless tops, sheer, or see through, and may not expose the midriff
  • No cargo pants
  • clothing that exposes any breast, genitalia or buttocks, including sheer material
  • No very tight fit/form fitting attire
  • Revealing, seductive, or offensive clothing is not allowed
