Jackson Correctional Institution operates as a level five-security facility, featuring a Main Unit spread across 266 acres, with a fortified 50-acre perimeter. Internally, the main compound is subdivided into three distinct areas by security fencing. The front area (East end) houses essential facilities such as the security building, Visitor Park, Chapel, Laundry, Multi-purpose Building (catering to medical, mental health, and classification needs), Food Service, Vocational Education, and Library.
The middle area (housing) comprises five open bay housing units (Dorms A – E), three cell housing units (Dorms F, G, and H), canteens, a barbershop, and security offices. Additionally, housing for ninety Administrative Confinement / Disciplinary Confinement inmates (Dorm Y) is situated directly behind the Multi-Service building.
The rear area (West end) is designated for recreation and wellness activities, featuring a pavilion, physical fitness area, basketball courts, softball field, soccer field, and walking area.
The compound contains nine housing units (dormitories), consisting of a variety of configurations, including open bay dormitories, butterfly-style units with double occupancy cells, a two-story "T Dorm" with double occupancy cells, a single-story building with segregation cells, and a Medical Unit housing two self-harm observation/isolation cells and a Medical Wing with a nine-bed infirmary.
