Julia Tutwiler Prison for women is located in Wetumpka Alabama and currently houses 812 female inmates. Due to it being one of the few facilities in Alabama that houses females, including female inmates on death row, Tutwiler prison is considered a maximum security facility, although it houses offenders from minimum to closed custody.
