Kern Valley State Prison opened in 2005, and is currently a level IV maximum security prison. The prison is comprised of four semi-autonomous facilities (A, B, C, and D) which each house level IV general population inmate. There are two administrative segregation units at Kern Valley.
Facility A contains eight housing units and can house 842 inmates. Unit 1 contains level one inmates and offenders pending classification, Units 2-8 are comprised of level IV general population inmates.
Facility B contains eight housing units and can house 804 level IV general population inmates. Some inmates here help provide the work force needed for the facility to operate.
Facility C contains eight housing units and can house 992 inmates. Level IV general population inmates and the special needs yard are housed here. Many programs including automotive repair, welding, and various therapies are available.
Facility D contains eight housing units and can house 966 inmates. Buildings 1-6 contain Level IV and Special Needs Yard inmates and buildings 7-8 contain level IV transitional unit inmates.

This is the California Visiting Questionnaire form and it must be signed by the inmate before you can fill it out and send it back to the facility at the inmate mailing address and add: "Attention: Visiting".
