Lawtey Correctional Institution is a mixed custody facility housing medium, minimum, and community security levels. Originally known as the "Old Anderson School Building," it was obtained from the Bradford County School Board in February 1973 and initially used as a Community Vocational Center for up to 100 work release participants, it was converted into a major institution in April 1977.
Lawtey Correctional Institution has a design capacity of 832 male inmates. Housing facilities consist of open bay dormitories and double occupancy rooms. Inmates are provided vocational training in drafting architecture, plumbing and HVAC. Other programs at Lawtey include pre-release counseling, substance abuse treatment, and a canine offender rehabilitation program.
Gainesville work camp is the satellite location for this facility and is temporarily closed.
