Logan Correctional Center opened in 1978, and is currently a multi-level security prison that houses up to 961 female offenders. Logan Correctional Center also operates the Logan Reception and Classification Center which houses an additional 109 inmates.
During incarceration at Logan Correctional Center inmates are encouraged to take educational and vocational courses. This provides inmates with a foundation of skills that can be utilized after release to gain potential employment. Adult basic education and the ability to earn a GED is provided at Logan Correctional. Additional vocational programs in cosmetology, nail technology, horticulture, custodial maintenance, culinary arts, construction technology, and the ability to earn an Associate's degree in liberal arts through Lake Land College are provided to all inmates.
The Illinois Department of Corrections prison industries program allows offenders to earn a wage working in a recycling shop and the helping paws dog program.
