Massachusetts Correctional Institution Concord is a medium and minimum/pre-release facility located in Concord Massachusetts. The maximum capacity of this institution is 1,029 male inmates. At one time MCI Concord was responsible for the reception and classification of all new adult male commitments, but this is no longer the case.
This facility is comprised of multiple housing units. The Secure Adjustment Unit houses inmates who have left the confines of the restrictive housing unit, but cannot be safely placed back into general population, they have similar access to treatment and education programs, as well as recreation time and mental health service. Secure Adjustment Units (SAU) is not considered restrictive housing, but inmates in this unit can be confined for up to 21 hours of the day. General population inmates are housed in eight units. J-building houses offenders in six separate units. L-building houses inmates in two dormitory units and contains the CRA (Correctional Recovery Academy) which is available to all inmates who tested positive for substance abuse during intake and classification. CRA is a six month therapeutic program.
While incarcerated inmates have various programs available to them, including vocational training. Culinary arts, a farming operation working with cows, and the National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS) puppy program, building trades, barbering, and automotive repair are just some of the offered courses.
