The Polk Correctional Institution is a level five-security facility. The compound includes 70 buildings, with some outside the secure perimeter like the Warehouse, Training Building, and Staff Houses. There are seven housing units, including open bay dormitories and multiple occupancy cell units.
Inmates are housed based on security level and have access to job assignments within the facility. Academic programs, including GED and vocational training, and are offered in the Academic building by qualified instructors. Additional vocational courses are also available through partnerships with educational institutions an include: applied information technology, HVAC, packaging machinery, warehouse manufacturing, and learning to be a heavy equipment operator. Substance abuse treatment programs at Polk Correctional Institution include intensive inpatient and outpatient programs, thinking for a change an the Castles in the Sky program.
