Description of Facility

Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center opened in 1998, and is a maximum security prison located in Lancaster Massachusetts. The facility can house a maximum of 1,410 male inmates, and is the only maximum security prison in the state. Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center is comprised of three buildings. The main building contains all the housing units and work programs. General population housing units are two tiered, with double bunked inmate cells usually having a capacity of around 92 per unit.

In addition to housing maximum security inmates, Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center is responsible for the diagnostic and classification of all males who enter into the Department of Corrections custody.

Visiting Hours & Information

In order to visit an inmate in Massachusetts you must do the following:

  • First, request the inmate add you to their prospective visitors list.
  • Next, complete a Massachusetts inmate visitors application. The application is also available in Spanish.
  • Complete and sign the form, then mail the application back to the facility your inmate is located in.
  • You will be notified of the status of your application, approved or denied.
  • Once approved you should familiarize yourself with the rules/dress code.
  • When attending a visit, you must provide a valid government issued photo identification such as a driver's license or passport.

Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center Visiting Hours:
All non-contact visits (units L1, L2, N1, N2, P1, P2, and SAU) must be schedule at least 24 hours in advance by calling the visiting room staff between 1:00pm and 8:00pm.
