Winfield Correctional Facility is situated in Cowley County, south central Kansas, formerly the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center site. This facility accommodates minimum security male offenders and has a capacity of 886. Buildings A, B, and C contain nine living units with open bay/dormitory style housing and 4 segregation cells. The A Building houses privilege offenders in rooms shared by 2-4 individuals with a shared suite restroom. B and C Buildings have communal restrooms with partitions between toilets and shower curtains for privacy.. Additionally, Winfield Correctional Facility overseas the satellite institution Wichita Work Release Facility which has two open bay/dormitory style housing units.
Inmates are provided various programs and services, including education, and health services. Residents participate in programs like Pre-Release, vocational, GED, and the Correctional Industries. They also engage in community service work for non-profit organizations, gaining valuable job skills. Additionally, inmates can join the Reaching Out from Within self-help program, aimed at promoting positive change and community contribution.
