Description of Facility

Youthful Offender System is part of the Pueblo correctional campus, and occupies the same grounds as the Mental Health Institute of Pueblo. Considered a medium security facility, the Youthful Offender System opened in 1994 and houses both male and female inmates ranging from 14-19. The maximum capacity for this facility is 256.

Inmates who are sentenced to the Youthful Offender System will undergo four phases. First, they will be processed through intake and diagnosis, as well as receive an orientation. This process usually takes between 30-45 days. The second phase is comprised of core programming, supplemental activities, and educational/vocational courses. The third phase is pre-release and occurs during the last couple months of an inmates sentence where they are focused on a plan for re-entry to society. The final phase is community supervision, where the offender is closely monitored as they are re-integrated with society.
